Airfare Dashboard

The  Airfare dashboard provides users with details of their airfares booked and invoiced in the date range selected and includes data on expenditure and transactional volumes.  It also contains information on expenditure by destination, airline market share, travel by class and description.  Clickable events within the dashboard allow users to drill into the data to view additional expenditure and statistical information.

Across the top of the Airfare dashboard, in the Air Spend blue box review the:

- Total Cost of Airfares - this is the total invoiced value for the date range selected
- Number of Air Bookings (excluding exchange tickets and refunds)
- Number of Tickets (unique tickets within the Air Bookings excluding exchange tickets and refunds)
- Number of Segments Flown (a count of the individual segments)

In the Air Statistics green box review the:

- Average Booking Lead Time (Exchange, Adcol and Refunded tickets are excluded from this calculation - see notes below)
- Average Cost of Booking (Total Cost of Airfares / Number of Air Bookings)
- Average Cost of Air Ticket (Total Cost of Airfares / Number of Tickets)
- Cost per Kilometer Flown (Total Cost of Airfares / Total number of kilometers flown)

In the Air Compliance red box, review the:

- Cheapest Fare Compliance (a percentage of all the normal fares booked in the policy code Cheapest Fare Accepted)
- and the Online Booking Compliance and Restricted Fare Uptake percentages.

The Air Spend by Destination details expenditure by country of destination.  Click into this table to bring a data table up which can be downloaded.

Note: Data for Destination = Australia (or any other country) will not always be the same as if you filter data by the location where 'travel is within' Australia.  The reason is that the destination (Australia) refers to trips within Australia and also trips that originate outside Australia (i.e. Indonesia to Australia).

The Airline Market Share graphically displays the market share for each airline.  Hover over the piece of pie to view the $ spend and click into the graphic to view the data in downloadable table form.

The Travel by Airfare Class graphic also have a hover feature which will allow users to view the $ spend for each booking class type.  Click into each piece of pie to reveal a graphic for each class type.  To return to the former view, click into the middle of the chart.

The Travel by Airfare Class Description is the table version of the Travel by Airfare Class graphic.  $ Spend, average booking cost, average advance purchase, % fares changed and the cost of change are all revealed in this table.

In some instances, the Travel by Airfare Class Description table may show a Fare Type Description of 'Unknown'.  This is due to the lack of air segment data in the system.  This may be due to low cost airlines not providing air segment data or the service date/departure date of the flight may be in the future and therefore the data may not have been loaded yet or be available to load.

Unrealistic Average Advance Purchase day counts can occur when trip start dates are so far into the future that their booking lead time days are skewing the result.

Notes:

Booking class or Airfare class data is provided via the segment data.

When calculating the Average Booking Lead Time, we omit any Exchange, Adcol and Refunded tickets from the calculation so that there is consistency in the data as any bookings pushed forward (ie. ticket credits and reissues) will throw out the data, which we have discovered over time. For example, we have noticed in some data sets, they will calculate AP by looking at the original ticket date and the date an exchange ticket is issued, which in the case of ticket credit, can be months after the original ticket issue date.
