Travel Analytics Update - Wednesday, 11 March 2020

We started out the year running a few collaboration sessions with our TMC partners.  The result is a host of new ideas, features and functionality which we will develop and roll out over the next 12 to 18 months.  This update highlights a number of new features and enhancements that we have introduced over the past couple of weeks, a couple of them timely with the growing concerns over COVID-19.

Welcome to Travel Analytics

We have released an introduction video that displays to users when they first log into Travel Analytics.  The 4-minute video, narrated by our own Support expert Caroline, is designed to provide users with an overview of the features available within Travel Analytics.  Thanks to many of you that provided feedback on the development of the video, it's much appreciated.

Travel Tracker Updates

We have updated Travel Tracker to allow users to click on the booking reference to display travel itinerary data within the application.

When users click on a hot spot (destination) within the onscreen map, a table will appear displaying the travellers that are currently at that destination.

Clicking on the booking reference will expand the content to display the whole itinerary.  This allows users to understand how long the traveller will be at the location and where they are travelling to next (see below).  This is critical given the current COVID-19 situation.

Don't forget DFAT data within Travel Tracker is refreshed every 30 minutes so users are getting access to the latest advice as it's released.

Travel by Airline Class Description

We have added expandable rows to the travel by airline class table.  This allows users to click on the fare class description to reveal the airfare class code as captured in the data (see below).

Clicking on the fare class within the table will reveal the details of the bookings associated with the fare class (see below).

Days Booked in Advance Graph

We have removed the fare class pie chart from the airfare dashboard replacing it with an advance purchase cascading column chart.  The feature allows users to view bookings booked within a default range of advance purchase periods, for example, less than 72 hours, between 3 and 7 days, between 8 and 14 days etc.

The user can click on the column within the chart to reveal the class of travel (i.e. business, flexible economy, restricted economy etc.) and then click again to reveal the actual fare class (i.e. Business: J, C, D and I).

Carbon Emissions

We have added Carbon Emissions to the Air Compliance container within the Airfare dashboard.  Calculations are based on a formula published by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.  The formula used considers the circle distance between two city pairs (km), flight duration (short, mid and long haul) and the class of travel.

We have also updated our user documentation to provide details on how we calculate Carbon Emissions; so check it out.
